The Somalia Stability Fund (SSF) funded CARE international to implement the Gender Equality & Social Inclusion in Puntland (GESIP) project. The investment was launched in July 2018 and was expected to be completed by December 2019. However, it was extended to April 202o after the SSF recommended additional activities to be included in the project. The timely completion of the project activities and planned closeout phase were later affected by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country. The investee had to halt the implementation of planned activities to prevent the risk of spreading of the virus, and wrote to the SSF team to seek advice on the way forward since the project period has ended. The investment had three key output areas that formed part of its broader objective of “Increasing the level of women’s and marginalized group’s participation and contribution to decision making in political processes in Puntland and Somalia in general ” namely; OUTPUT 1: Women and female youth are aware of their rights and responsibilities; OUTPUT 2: Women and female youth improve the necessary skills and confidence to participate in the political process; OUTPUT 3: Establish space/platforms for women coalitions to discuss common set of interests.
