The American Refugee Council (ARC) has implemented Anti-Piracy Fishery Project in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MoFMR) of Puntland to provide sustainable livelihoods and human capital development to youth and women, while also supporting prevention of violent extremism among youth population in the inaccessible and remote coastal Indian Ocean districts of Bargaal, Bandarbeyla and Garacad with funding from SSF. The overall goal of the project was to increase government visibility and community engagement. The project aimed to ensure that strategic value chains were strengthened, both institutionally and through infrastructural support, and provide trainings and employment to women and youth; and provide training and resources to cooperatives to improve resilience and productivity. The intervention primarily worked at the local, FMS and FGS levels, and contributes to SSF’s Output: increased government visibility and community engagement, which forms the Outcome for the investment.
